The Resilience Project
The Resilience Project at Wattle View Primary School
At Wattle View Primary School, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of every student. As part of this commitment, we proudly implement The Resilience Project as a whole-school approach to wellbeing from Prep to Year 6.
The Resilience Project is an evidence-based wellbeing program that teaches students practical strategies to build resilience, positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. The program is built around four key pillars: Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy. These principles help students develop the skills they need to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships and navigate life's challenges with confidence.
How We Bring The Resilience Project to Life
At Wattle View, wellbeing is not taught as a stand-alone subject. It is embedded into everyday school life.
Students participate in regular classroom lessons from The Resilience Project curriculum, learning age-appropriate strategies that help them develop resilience and emotional awareness. Our teachers explicitly teach and model the GEM principles, helping students practise these skills in authentic and meaningful ways throughout the day.
We have also developed whole-school wellbeing routines that support our students every day, including:
- Daily Check-In Chats
- Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness activities
- Emotional literacy lessons
- Respectful Relationships education
- Zones of Regulation
- Social Groups and targeted wellbeing supports
- Student wellbeing spaces such as classroom wellbeing spaces and The Pod
These opportunities help students build strong connections with their peers, teachers and school community while developing lifelong wellbeing habits.
Why The Resilience Project Matters
Research shows that students who develop strong social and emotional skills are better equipped to learn, build relationships and cope with challenges. The Resilience Project's whole-school approach has been shown to improve confidence, self-esteem, emotional expression, classroom relationships and overall wellbeing. Long-term implementation has also been linked to reductions in anxiety and depressive symptoms and improvements in students' ability to cope with challenges.
At Wattle View, we believe that wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. When students feel safe, connected and supported, they are more engaged in their learning and more likely to thrive both academically and personally.
What This Means for Families
Families choosing Wattle View can be confident that their child will be part of a school community that values not only academic success but also emotional wellbeing, resilience and belonging.
Our whole-school wellbeing approach helps students to:
- Develop positive relationships and social skills
- Understand and manage their emotions
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Develop resilience when facing challenges
- Show empathy and kindness towards others
- Create healthy habits that support lifelong wellbeing
By embedding The Resilience Project across our school, we are helping every child build the foundations they need to flourish both at school and beyond.
